WKWA  MEMBERSHIP  MEETING
  7:00 PM  Thursday  May  5 2005

Meeting held at The Pasta House Co Restaurant in Paducah.

President Bradley Rankin M.D. opened the meeting at 7:15 with a toast.

Treasurer's report by Bob Long.

Webmaster Ralph Patey mentioned that there is a forum for open discussion among members on the site. Jerry Hall is the current featured member on the site.

Dr. Hall's vineyard tour on 4-30-05 was attended by 6 members. Secretary Bob Hoppmann expressed his interest tonight on seeing Hall's potential outlook for a commercial winery. Vice president Allen Dossey mentioned his tasting room and equipment barn as being informative.

Spring Sampler is May 20-21 at Dolly McNutt Plaza in downtown Paducah. WKWA will be manning Jim Bravard's wine tasting booth on Saturday from 10 am -7pm. Members are encouraged to help. We will have membership packets about our group to hand out.

The Logo was approved and shirts will be ordered in time for Spring Sampler. Dr. Rankin has prices and is taking orders.

Southern Illinois winery tour will be Saturday, July 9th. Bud Qualk is in charge of bus or van procurement. Times will be determined at a later date. Our goal is to visit 4-6 wineries with private tours possible and (obviously) taste wine and enjoy WKWA fellowship.

Our guest speaker was Jim Bravard , owner/winemaker/operator of Bravard Vineyard and Winery of Hopkinsville Ky. Jim's "whats going on in my vineyard" style of interaction during his presentation was informative, insiteful and downright on track. His topics started with weed killing (weeds 2, Jim 0), since a lot of weeds warranted a lot of conversation.  Other topics were drainage, pesticides, soil additives, fungus, diseases and insects. Blackrot is enemy #1. Dogs seem to be a favorite to help with deer in your vineyard, but Puma poop and pepper spray might be good too.... Many fertilizers were discussed, but Jim says that the best fertilizer is the vineyardist's own "footprints in the dirt". Good job Jim.

All wines being tasted and accounted for, DR. Rankin pulled names for door prizes (two nice bottles of wine and two gift certificates to The Pasta House Co) and bid us all adieu.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00
