                                                                 Allen Dossey

I became interested in grapes and wine several years ago. With this interest and a trip to Napa Valley in 1999 my interest turned into action.

I planted 165 Chardonnay, 100 Cabernet Sauvignon, 50 Cabernet Franc, 50 Pinot Noir, 50 Riesling and 25 Merlot at my house in Lone Oak in 2004. Later that Summer I purchased an additional 26 acres in Lone Oak and planted 600 more Chardonnay in the Spring of 2005.

With the growing of grapes in full swing I have turned my attention to winemaking. I have experimented with Chardonnay grapes from California and made several batches of Strawberry and Blackberry wine. I look forward to making wine from my home grown plants in the near future.

My reason for starting the West Kentucky Winegrowers Association with Dr. Brad Rankin is to gain and share information on grape growing and winemaking in Western Kentucky.
